The American Booksellers Book of the year (ABBY) Award was established in 1991 to honor the "hidden treasures" that ABA bookstore members most enjoyed recommending to their customers during the previous year. The children's award was added in 1993. |

The Book Sense Book of the Year Award -- formerly known as the "ABBY Award" -- was inaugurated on June 2 at BookExpo America 2000. Winners are chosen by independent booksellers across the country who vote for the titles they most enjoyed handselling to their customers in the previous year. |

It is the premier British award for fiction written in English by a citizen of the United Kingdom, the British Commonwealth, Eire, Pakistan, or South Africa. |

The Young Reader's Choice Award is presented by the Pacific Northwest Library Association. The late Harry Hartman, a Seattle bookseller established the award in 1940. The nominations are made by teachers, librarians, students and others and limited to books published within the 3 years previous. This is the oldest children's choice literature award in the USA and Canada. |
